Qualified carpenters are in short supply across regional WA. Whether you’re running residential builds, commercial fitouts, or maintenance contracts in the Kimberley, the local trade workforce is thin and turnover is constant. Visa sponsorship and the Kimberley DAMA open the door to a much larger candidate pool, and we handle everything so you can stay focused on the job site.
What we do
INDUSTRIES WE WORK WITH
We work with residential and commercial builders, construction and civil contractors, fitout and joinery businesses, maintenance and facilities companies, and mining and resources companies requiring carpentry trades. If you’re based anywhere in regional WA – Broome, Kununurra, Wyndham, the Pilbara, or the Gascoyne, and you need a qualified carpenter, get in touch.
You Don’t Need to Be a Big Company to sponsor.
You don’t need a HR department or a legal team. Small builders, sole traders, and local contractors can all sponsor overseas carpenters, as long as the role is genuine and on the eligible occupations list. We’ll tell you upfront whether your situation qualifies before you spend any time or money on it.

Why We Don’t Stop at the Visa and recruitment
A carpenter who arrives in a regional WA town without proper support often doesn’t stay. They can’t find accommodation, feel isolated, and within a few months they’re gone, and you’re back to square one with a visa cost behind you. We tackle this directly. We prepare workers for what life in regional WA is actually like before they arrive, and we stay involved once they’re there, helping with accommodation, local connections, and the practical stuff that makes the difference between someone who stays and someone who leaves.
How We Work
Step 1 – Tell us what you need
A quick call or email is all it takes. Tell us the type of carpentry work, your location, and what you’ve already tried. We’ll ask a few questions and tell you honestly whether visa sponsorship is likely to work for your situation.
Step 2 – We find the right person
We source candidates with the right trade background, attitude, and readiness to relocate to regional WA. You only talk to people worth your time.
Step 3 – We sort the visa
Once you’ve chosen someone, we manage the application with the Department of Home Affairs. We handle the paperwork and keep you across what’s happening without drowning you in it.
FAQs
Can I sponsor an overseas carpenter in regional WA?
Yes. Carpenters are an eligible occupation under visa sponsorship pathways available to regional WA employers. The DAMA may provide additional concessions for businesses in Broome, Kununurra and the wider region. Melting Pot will confirm your eligibility and the right pathway before anything else.
What type of carpentry work can be sponsored?
Most trade carpentry roles qualify, residential framing, formwork, fitout, commercial construction, and maintenance carpentry. If you’re not sure whether your specific role is eligible, call us and we’ll check in a few minutes.
How long does it take to get an overseas carpenter on site?
Realistically six weeks to a few months from first conversation to commencement, depending on the visa pathway and the individual’s circumstances. Regional applications are often processed faster than metro ones. We’ll give you a realistic estimate once we understand your situation.
Who pays for the visa?
As the sponsoring employer you cover the government visa application costs. You cannot pass these on to the worker, that’s a legal requirement. Melting Pot’s referral fee is separate and only charged when the carpenter starts.
What does Melting Pot charge?
A referral fee when the worker commences. Nothing upfront, nothing if the placement isn’t made.
Do I employ them directly?
Yes. You are the employer. The carpenter goes on your books, you pay their wages, super, and entitlements. We’re not a labour hire company, we introduce the right person and you hire them directly.
What if it doesn’t work out?
We have a replacement policy for placements that don’t stick. We’ll be clear about what that looks like when we start working together.
What are my obligations as a sponsoring employer?
You need to pay at least the market salary for the role, maintain the employment as agreed, and meet Australian workplace laws. We walk you through all obligations before you commit to anything.
